Pooja is determined to succeed

Pooja Sharma
Thirteen year old Pooja Sharma hails from the village of Makihana in Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Sunil, is a driver and her mother, Kusum, is a house wife. Pooja’s father has studied upto grade 10, and her mother is illiterate. She lives with her parents, two sisters and one brother in a house wich has electricity, water and sanitation facilities.

Pooja studies in grade 9 at the school run by Pardada Pardadi. She is a quiet girl who like to play kho- kho. She loves English, which she likes to practice with all the volunteers. Pooja really values the education that she is getting, and she is determined to be financially independent when she grows up, so she is not at the mercy of the male members of her family and her community.

Thank you, James (x3), Cindy (x2), Rick and Beth (x2), Eric, James and Julie, Mike and Suzanne (x3), for coming together to support Pooja’s education for an entire year. By helping educate Pooja, you are not just empowering her, you are helping catalyze change in the community.
